Reviews - Aram - Creative Loafing Online
The music resembles the organ-warmed adult rock
throwback like that of the Wallflowers, or perhaps even Steely Dan –
Aram is another gentleman loser, with many tales of love lost and love
thought lost but never truly attained. He can be a cockeyed romantic
that defiantly bucks the odds and the obvious – blithe spirits who don't
notice him (“Bluefish”, “Serendipity”) and “best” friends that aren't
looking to him for anything more (“Dogs”). Life doesn't give him much
better than love, as he talks openly about lack of success in music
(“November”) and an indifferent family (“Rocket Heroes”). The tone here
rarely changes – Aram talks of how the sun never shines on the “Bigger
Highway,” but his songs don't seem inspired by better weather on the
back roads either.
