Reviews - Clyde Wrenn - Cosmik Debris
The first twenty seconds of this CD weren't too
promising. Sounded like any of a hundred dust-covered independent singer/songwriter
CDs in a box in the back room here. Then something started to come through:
textures. Clyde Wrenn seems to understand how to build drama in a song
with empty spaces, stark sounds, surprising lyrical turns and unexpected
instrumentation. In short order I was hooked on this sweet little mood
piece, floating along the textured dreamscape of "I Won't Do It Again"
and bouncing to the kicky and unusual "Settle Down." There are a lot
of songwriters out there making CDs of their own versions of Americana-esque
acousti-folk-dream-pop. No, seriously, there are. Very few of them are
even half this interesting. Clyde Wrenn's definitely got something going
on here. (Surprise Truck Entertainment: PO Box 4077 Hollywood, CA 90078-4077.)
